Overview
The Youth Innovative Design Festival is a major film festival and award for animation and multimedia students in Taiwan. The 2024 key visual emphasizes the theme of "Blur," conveying that the younger generation’s style and creativity are not defined by rules and exist in an undefined, blurred zone. The video switches rapidly between 3D and 2D styles, looping to connect the creative process—try, fail, and try again.
My Role
I was responsible for creating the concept and keyframe art for the 2D animation, while others handled the animation and in-betweening. This project gave me a lot of creative freedom. Initially, I only received some 3D scenes and clay previs. Using these clues, I decided the content and style for all the shots I wanted to draw. I tried to express different mediums such as watercolor, crayon, comics, oil paint, and digital illustration. I also focused on how to use various elements to connect the different styles before and after, while echoing the elements and colors of the key visual.
