Overview

"Ghost Swing" is a song by Taiwanese artist YELLOW黃宣, depicting a story about a pact with the devil. The music video integrates live-action, 3D, and 2D elements, alternating between color and black-and-white to create an eerie, grotesque atmosphere that blends reality with fantasy.

My Role

I was responsible for the keyframe art for the 2D animations. My task involved referencing the 3D character and environment designs from the MV to develop the 2D visual style and elements. These 2D elements were then composited onto live-action footage, with other team members handling the animation and in-betweening.

This is one of the most critical sequences, depicting the human character's gradual transformation into the 3D cartoon character. I designed the transition process and the final transformed state. After discussing with the team, we imagined a slime-like, gel-based substance creeping up from the bottom of the frame to eventually envelop the character's body. I extracted colors and motifs from the 3D character and translated them into a series of spreading, semi-transparent strokes.

To better communicate the visual of the gunshot sequence, I initially created simple cel animation sketches to demonstrate the movement and static effect.
