Overview

This project is the concept art for an album by VH, a Taiwanese indie band. The album's theme is "5S," referencing the industrial workplace methodology: Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain. The band uses these principles as a metaphor for organizing one’s inner self. The visual direction — from the packaging to the inner sleeves—revolves around factory imagery, using metaphors to connect industrial structures with the human psyche.

My Role

I was responsible for designing and creating the factory environments. During the early stages, before the packaging design began, I was tasked with translating the album’s lyrical themes into a single environment concept art. Through continuous communication with the creative team, I refined their vision and atmospheric goals into preliminary designs, 3D layouts, and the final composite. This artwork was ultimately used for the album's inner sleeves, concert key visuals, and posters.

The concept features an abandoned factory integrated with anatomical elements. Various plants, terrains, and details echo the song lyrics, allowing fans to find clues related to the album's philosophy. To convey the band's themes of rebirth and hope, I used warm sunlight to define the atmosphere.

Process

3D Viewport. The scene was built using Blender.

Visual elements from two of the album's singles were integrated into the environment.

The character illustration is the cover art for VH's single 'Go to HeyYo' (水查), also illustrated by me.
